This is Sister of Death Julie and the tattoos that appear on her back when her wings are concealed.

Julie is the oldest of the nine sisters and considers herself to be motherly of her younger siblings. After their mother died giving birth to the last sister she became very protective of the girls and watches over them like a mother a child. This has lead her into many conflicts with her sisters that she regrets. She struggles with her duty as a sister and following the orders of their father and wanting to be there for her sisters, may of which go against their fathers wishes. This leads her into a tight corner every now and then and saddens her. Out of all the sisters she is also considered the wisest and is in charge of spirits that have died of old age. Since these spirits are usually read to pass on she has more time to deal with her sisters and the many problems that they create.

Julie first appears in Book 2 of A Shadowlander's Dream the novel.

Stunning. This series of pictures is really striking. This one is my favourite. Perhaps it's the motherly thing. I love your tattoo images. I've never been brave enough to have one, I have to admit!

Thank you so very much. I'm glad you liked them and this one as well. I really want to write about her more and just after reading your message on the PSP, I was going to reply but it is so hard to do on that tiny machine, I got this great idea of how to add in more about Julie and the other angels and allow it to flow with the story nicely. After I'm finished this one new piece I'm getting back to writing. This is just the thing I needed before posting the beginning of the next book.

I don't have any tattoos either, I'm deadly afraid of needles. I wanted some of the ones that I drew around the girl's eyes, because they represent a loss in life, but thought that would be dreadfully painful and people would probably stare more then usual. I'm trying to get the courage to get one of the wing tattoos on my arm maybe... not likely to happen, but when Kim gets her Care Bear tattoo of Tender Heart, because she considers me her Tender Heart Bear, I might consider getting one too... maybe...

Well thanks for commenting and the fav. Glad you liked the designs, I should have more of the other characters from this series later.

How lovely that your art inspires your writing and vice versa. I wish I could write. I've tried but my scribbles were for a children's picture book which were stonily ignored by several agents lol. I didn't think I had time to illustrate at the time. I don't think I have the ability yet as it's colour work which I'm so nervous of still. Now I'm glad they ignored me though because I'm still keen to see it published and one day when I've mastered the colour stuff I'd love to give it a go. It's probably rubbish though to be honest lol.

Awww Care Bears! Your wife would love my eldest daughter's bedside shelves, she has several which she has collected at random charity shop 15p boxes (stingy mum!) and they love watching the cartoon on telly. The closest I came to having a tattoo was a fuzzy bumble bee on my shoulder when I was a student. I drew one one day and thankfully sobered up before I got to the tattoo parlour - my drawing they should copy was rubbish!

My art and writing has always gone hand in hand. I sometimes find it hard to describe something so will draw it and when I can't draw I write, such as the emotions behind the image. Writing is something anyone can so it is the story telling that is hard. All you need to do is learn to take a thought and expand upon it, no matter how silly the thought may be. It is like drawing a picture only with words. I think a lot of people get stuck on telling a good story and don't just try to tell the tale. *shrugs*

Your colour works are beautiful and I love the softness of them, as well as your toned works. You just need to get more confidence in your colouring and the only way to do that is to keep at it. Try to not think about it too much and just colour one piece at a time, you will get faster and better with each piece that is coloured. Your works are not rubbish, I know I'm interested in anything you work on.

Kim would be ecstatic to see that. She loves stuffed animals so much we have them everywhere now. It is good to think over what kind of Tattoo you are getting if you really want one just because it will be stuck with you for life. I'm betting your art wasn't rubbish, but an artist is their worst critic and knowing me I would never want one of my pieces on me, other then my celtic wing designs that is.

I tried to reply to your other messages but for some reason all your journals have vanished. I wanted to thank you for your kind words and that I'll probably be finished that piece today or newmorrow. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi there, thank you for your kind words about the colour work. I certainly need more confidence with the colour images. I labour my colour work and it never quite comes out right. I certainly need practise so I'm delaying that until I have more time and I'm going full guns on the black and white right now.
I love your description of your writing. You certainly paint an image and it's a clever way of writing. No wonder you're so talented at both!
The journal vanishing is completely my fault lol. I very stupidly had a crack at the portfolio and was so excited by how it looked that I stupidly forgot the testing element and sent a link across to a children's publishing house - whoops. As nothing showed on the link I was worried they would remove the portfolio from the address line to see my main site and see all my uncertainties and time concerns on the journal. I won't be making that mistake again! I wouldn't have bothered but I had a lovely conversation with someone at the company and would love to impress rather than make myself look unprofessional. I'm scrabbling together my images on the Coroflot site now so that I can rush them out another link. Someone suggested the site and it seems quite good so far. It's all going to be pretty hit and miss for me to begin with while I find my feet with all this. I'm just battling like mad against my dreadful impulsiveness. I have no patience and I think I've learned my first lesson in lumbering in too quickly without checking and double checking!! lol

Sounds like you have a normal issue that most artist have, being too critical of your works. I mean the few pieces you show on your page are beautiful so you should give yourself some more credit.

Thanks for the compliments, I don't consider myself talented, this is just what I happened to be good at.

Ahhh, I see. honest mistake. You know there is an easy way to hide the URL of your DA portfolio so that those you send it too can not see it. If you goto the site Tiny URL you can change the URL of any page to something else. It is a simple redirect, but it covers up the URL so that others can't see where the site is really located. This is a trick that was originally created to make it so you don't have to type long URLs when sending them to people, but it works in many other ways.

Well good luck with everything.

Hi Kat, yes I'm certainly guilty of being over critical at times. I'm sorry that it has taken me a while to reply to this message. I kept meaning to get round to saving the URL at the Tiny site to favourites and have finally got round to doing it before replying and having to find the message again lol. It's a great site, thank you for the pointer.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I've been trying to give each character something a little different about their wings then just plain white. I mean the brilliant white wings are supposed to represent purity and innocence so I figured that some of the older sisters would have different kinds of wings and markings. Wait until you see Grania because she has the most unusual wings that I can't quite show in just one image. Right now I'm working on Keelia and having some troubles so it is taking much longer to get her done then planned.

Well glad you liked Julies looks.
